Firefighters called to Hampstead Marshall mower fire and Bradfield grass fire




FIREFIGHTERS have been called out today (Thurs) to a mower fire in Hampstead Marshall and also a grass fire in Bradfield.
Spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), Nicole Targett, said one pump from Newbury was called at 12.09pm to the mower fire, extinguished using one hosereel.
No-one was hurt, but the mower was destroyed, with the cause believed to be a mechanical failure and the incident closed at 12.34pm
A pump from Reading was also called out to Bradfield at 1.13pm, to a grass fire, which had spread from a bonfire, at the Travellers Rest Farm, Hungerford Lane, after someone spotted black smoke and called the fire service.
Firefighters used beaters and back packs to extinguish the blaze, in an area measuring 10m by 15m.
The cause was put down as accidental.
Firefighters left the scene at 1.50pm.
