Tadley firefighters called to Wigmore Park blaze
Firefighters from Tadley tackled a fire in a park this evening.
Crews were called to a fire in the open at Wigmore Park in Tadley, where around one hectare of gorse was on fire when they arrived.
Assisted by firefighters from Basingstoke and officers from Hampshire Constabulary, the crews used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters said that damping down is still in progress, and that the cause was "doubtful" at this stage.
Wigmore Park forms part of the Wigmore Heath nature reserve in Baughurst.
The heathland is managed for nature conservation and is important for heather and a variety of wildlife including lizards and different species of bird.
