Security locked vehicle contained oil

FIREFIGHTERS contained a Penwood van fire last night (Monday), despite strong security locks on the van and which contained oil.

One pump from Newbury fire station was called at 9.30pm to Fox's Walk, where the front of a transit van was on fire.

The van, which was parked on a driveway, was security locked and contained oil in the back.

Firefighters discovered the front compartment of the van well alight.

The occupants of the house had self evacuated the property when firefighters arrived.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters broke through several security locks on the van.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.

Firefighters left the scene at 10.30pm.

No details of the cause of the fire were available from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS).
