Watch Manager, Bob Mitchell, of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, said one pump was called at 6.30pm to Ormonde Gardens, near Waitrose, after a ten month old baby accidentally triggered the car locks.
“The baby had pressed a button and locked itself in and the parents could not get the baby to re-open it,” said Mr Mitchell.
Firefighters carefully broke a window, ensuring no glass fell inside the vehicle, enabling them to then open the car door and release the baby.
“The baby was crying, but the family was happily re-united,” added Mr Mitchell.
Firefighters left the scene at 6.50pm.
