Firefighters free two-year-old Greenham boy with arm trapped in car seat
FIREFIGHTERS cut free a two-year-old boy with his arm trapped in a car seat in Greenham this afternoon (Wednesday).
One pump from Newbury Fire Station was called at 4.41pm, to Lamtarra Way, where a two-year-old boy had his arm trapped in the rear seat of a car.
Crew manager of white watch at Newbury Fire Station, Jim Fernie, who was at the scene, said the boy’s arm was trapped in the fold of the seat, with his hand in the boot and whilst the boy remained sat in a child seat.
A crew of four firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to release the child, by cutting through the car seat mechanism, which had jammed. This allowed the car seat to drop forward, releasing the child.
“Two neighbours were there trying to take the pressure off the car's rear seats", said Mr Fernie.
“The boy’s arm was through the middle of the rear seat with his hand in the boot.”
Firefighters were about to administer oxygen to the boy, when the ambulance service arrived to take over.
“His mother was a bit shook up and not sure how it happened,” said Mr Fernie, adding it was believed the boy suffered grazes to his arm, but he was being checked by paramedics and as firefighters left the scene at 4.54pm.
South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS)spokesman, Matt George, said a rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene, after an alert by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS).
Ambulance services remained at the scene at 5pm today (Wednesday).
