Firefighters from three stations battle Brimpton roof fire
According to Chris Cound, the crew manager of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one fire engine from Newbury, another from Mortimer and two from Dee Road in Tilehurst - about 17 firefighters - were called at 4.30pm to a fire at Ruth Mills therapies/Fabulosity Hair and Beauty, in Brimpton Road.
“There was an awful lot of smoke when we got there, it took some time to locate the fire between the roof and slates,” said Mr Cound, who continued:
“We pulled all the tiles off the roof and it was inside the roof void.”
The cause was believed to be an electrical fault, with the roof 25 per cent damaged.
There was one woman inside the premises at the time, according to the fire service. No-one was hurt.
Firefighters wearing four sets of breathing apparatus used two hosereels and a water jet to extinguish the fire, with the incident closed at 9pm.
The business was officially opened in May by High Sheriff of Berkshire Charles Brims and was previously JJ’s hair and beauty.
