Firefighters issue chip pan warning after Monks Lane fire

FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning to never leave chip pans unattended after a kitchen was damaged by fire in Monks Lane last night (Weds).
Two pumps from Newbury attended the property at 7.30pm and crews took around 45 minutes to tackle the blaze.
However, Watch Manager at Newbury fire station, Richard Young, admitted it could have been far more serious.
He said: “Water was put on the chip pan fire, which is the worst thing you can do. They got quite lucky really.”
Nobody is thought to have been hurt in the fire.
