Firefighters prevent Greenham shed blaze setting house alight

Suspected arson under investigation

Firefighters prevented a Greenham shed fire from spreading to a house this morning (Thurs), in a suspected arson.

Two fire engines were called at 6am from Newbury Fire Station, to a house in Dickens Walk, Nightingales, where a large blazing pile of rubbish had set a shed and fence on fire.

The shed was discovered well alight and the blaze was licking at the side of an adjacent house.

The occupants of the house were outside when firefighters arrived and no-one was hurt.

Two hosereel jets were used to extinguish the fire.

"We managed to stop it spreading to the house," said Richard Young, watch manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station.

The shed was 50 per cent destroyed in the blaze.

Firefighters left the scene at 7.30am.

The fire was recorded as a suspected arson by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS).
