Firefighters rescue boy with knee stuck in tree

Shaw play park drama

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a boy in Shaw this afternoon whose knee became stuck in a tree, whilst climbing it to reach conkers.

One pump from Newbury Fire Station was called at 4pm, to the play area next to Shaw Social Club, in Almond Avenue.

Firefighters discovered a six-year-old boy with his left knee wedged in the fork of a tree.

His mother had clambered up the tree to support her son and prevent him falling.

Emergency services were called to the scene after initial attempts to release the boy proved unsuccessful.

Firefighters used hydraulic spreaders to widen the gap between the branches to free the boy, who was none the worse for his ordeal.

No damage was caused to the tree.

Firefighters left the scene at 4.30pm
