Firefighters rescue dog stuck between house walls in East Ilsley

Two hour rescue operation between neighbouring houses

FIREFIGHTERS were involved in a two-hour operation to rescue a dog stuck between house walls in East Ilsley last night (Thurs).

One fire engine from Newbury Fire Station and the heavy rescue unit from Dee Road Fire Station in Tilehurst, were called at 10.30pm, after a Welsh terrier, called Murphy was discovered trapped between neighbouring house walls.

Missing since Monday, emergency services were alerted to the scene after the dog's hoarse barks were heard.

Firefighters spent tow hours at the scene in a difficult rescue operation, which involved removing a toilet downpipe, to create space to squeeze through a narrow gap between neighbouring houses.

"He was dehydrated and tired, but ok," said a firefighter at the scene.

Firefighters departed at 12.30am.

Social media appeals had earlier highlighted the fact the dog was missing.
