Firefighters rescue motorist stranded in Hungerford floodwater near Wiltshire border
Crew manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Neil Poulding, said two pumps were called at 9.31am from Newbury and Hungerford, to the A338 near Hungerford, in the Bagshot direction.
Firefighters discovered a motorist stranded in a car in water about one to two ft deep.
After crews approached the flood waters from both sides, the Hungerford firefighters waded in and pushed the car out.
“There was one person in the car - he was fine , but a bit wet where water had come into the vehicle,” said Mr Poulding, adding his safety advice would be not to drive through floodwater:
“The man said he drives along the road frequently and thought ‘It can’t be that deep’ and it took him unawares and caused the engine to stall and damaged the car.”
Police were also at the incident and the road was closed afterwards.
Firefighters left the scene shortly after 10am.
