Firefighters rescue Tilehurst and Grazeley motorists stranded in floodwaters
Spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) , Ellie Gray, said a pump from Wokingham Road Fire Station, together with the water rescue unit from Caversham Road in Reading, were called at 11.03am to assist a vehicle and driver stuck in floodwaters in Wood Lane, Grazeley.
After assisting the driver to safety, firefighters left the scene at 11.29am
Firefighters from Pangbourne Fire Station were also called out at 11.17am, to Long Lane, Tilehurst, to rescue a woman stuck in a car in floodwaters.
Firefighters assisted the woman to safety before leaving the scene at 11.46am.
RBFRS fire service’s procedures on rescuing those stuck in flood waters remained unchanged, in the face of recent heavy rain and rising water levels, according to the service.
Firefighters would continue to attend incidents involving a risk to life, for example to persons stuck, or trapped in deep water/strong currents.
If the situation involved no risk to life - for example a vehicle stranded/stalled in shallower road water – then drivers should contact a local vehicle recovery service.
The RBFRS has warned of the dangers of attempting to cross floodwaters, which may hide additional dangers, such as blown manhole covers.
With many roads closed across Berkshire and Hampshire due to flooding, drivers are advised to plan journeys in advance by checking local travel information.
