Firefighters rescue woman with knee stuck in railings

Bartholomew Street scene of predicament

Newbury firefighters rushed to the aid of a woman with her knee stuck in railings in Newbury town centre last night (Fri).

One pump was called at 10.30pm to Bartholomew Street, near the railway bridge, to assist a woman believed to have been in her 40's.

"She was a bit 'merry' and slipped and her knee went through the bars and swelled up," said one of the firefighters.

"We had to spread the bars apart to get her right knee out."

Paramedics were also at the scene.

Firefighters left at 11pm.
