Firefighters tackle blaze in elderly resident's flat

Two pumps from Newbury Fire Station attended the sheltered housing flats at Lambourn Court in Walton Way, Newbury, shortly before 4pm.
The woman, who lives in the flat, was at home at the time the fire began, but was removed from the property by manager of the residential flats before fire crews were in attendance.
Blue watch manager Lee Glover said: "We had a fire in a ground floor flat... started in a waste paper bin.
"By the time we arrived the whole flat was top to bottom in thick black smoke."
Firefighters used a thermal image camera and a hose reel to tackle the blaze.
The fire was extinguished at approximately 5:10pm and no-one was injured in the incident.
