Firefighters tackle fire and flooding in Aldermaston

According to Nicole Targett of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, one pump from Tilehurst Fire Station was called at 10.39am to a kitchen fire at a house in Aldermaston Wharf.
The fire was thought to have been caused by an item left on the hob of a cooker, while the occupants were out.
Firefighters broke down the door to rescue two Newfoundland dogs from the property, including a puppy, which were affected by smoke and taken to the vets.
Firefighters used fans to ventilate the property, with the kitchen 40 per cent destroyed in the blaze.
Before leaving the scene, firefighters were then alerted by a neighbour to a separate incident, at another house in Aldermaston Wharf, affected by flooding of carpet depth, due to a water leak.
The woman who alerted the firefighters to the flooded house was the only occupant and unhurt.
After clearing up the water and salvaging items, firefighters left the scene at 12.17pm.
