Firefighters tackle fires in Compton, Cold Ash and Peasemore





According to firefighter Robin Whitman of Newbury Fire Station, one pump from Newbury was called at 9.10am to The Crown pub in Compton, to a fire contained in the chimney.
The pub was closed at the time of the fire and no-one was hurt.
Firefighters used rods to extinguish the blaze and left the scene after 45 minutes.
One pump from Newbury, together with a second from Tilehurst and third from Whitley Wood, were then called at 2.35pm, to a fire in the basement of a house in Ashmore Green Road, Cold Ash.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the blaze.
The cause was not known, with an oil-powered boiler damaged in the blaze and smoke damage to the property.
Two people evacuated the house prior to the fire service arriving and were unhurt.
Firefighters left the scene after one and a half hours.
One pump from Newbury was then called out again at 4,22pm, to a shed fire in the garden of a house at Hatt Close, Peasemore.
One hosereel was used to extinguish the fire, which destroyed the shed and also damaged a fence.
A woman and two children at the property were unhurt.
Fire services left the scene after 40 minutes.
