Firefighters tackle window display blaze at Parkway Shopping

Crew manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Neil Polding, said two pumps were called from the station at 6.34am, to the shop, L’Occitane, after two men cleaning windows noticed the shop’s window display was on fire.
Parkway security staff notified the proprietors, but were unable to immediately obtain a key, therefore firefighters made a forced entry by using cutting equipment to cut the shop’s main door lock.
The window display was then removed and the fire extinguished.
The cause was thought to be faulty electrics in flashing LED lights used in the display.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) closed the incident after one hour.
