Huge blaze breaks out near Streatley
FIREFIGHTERS are combating a huge fire that has broken out near Streatley this afternoon (Thursday).
Three fire engines have been called to tackle the massive blaze in a 70 acre field in Stitchens Green.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said that the 30ft to 40ft flames had come within 20ft of his property.
"Our property is close to it. It's a huge fire the noise was unbelievable," he said.
"We took all of the valuables out of the house just in case."
Fire engines from Dee Road, Mortimer and Wallingford were dispatched to the crop field.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that crews are currently damping down and monitoring the fire.
