Firefighters to begin four day strike tonight (Friday)
The strike, being held over the Hallowe’en and bonfire period, will begin at 6pm today (Friday) and end at 6pm on Tuesday, November 4.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service says that contingency arrangements are in place and life-critical incidents, such as house fires and road traffic collisions where people are trapped, will be prioritised.
The service is also advising people to take particular care with candles, fireworks and bonfires during their celebrations.
Deputy chief fire officer Trevor Ferguson said: “If you are taking part in Hallowe’en celebrations this weekend, please ensure lanterns and candles are placed in a heat-resistant surface and are a safe distance away from flammable items such as curtains, furniture and decorations.
“If you are planning on holding a bonfire and fireworks display, always make sure bonfires are sited well away from buildings, fences and trees."
The upcoming strike follows on and off periods of industrial action held over eight days in August this year.
