Firefighters warn of kitchen appliance safety risk, following Cold Ash blaze
According to Richard Young, watch manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one pump from Newbury and a second from Tilehurst, were called at 10.30am to a detached house in Cold Ash Hill, where a tumble drier was on fire in the conservatory, due to an electrical fault.
Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hosereel to extinguish the blaze.
One person who evacuated the property before firefighters arrived was unhurt.
“There was a lot of damage to the conservatory and smoke in the house,” said Mr Young.
The fire safety message following the incident, he continued, was not to leave appliances such as washing machines, or tumble driers, unattended whilst they were switched on.
Firefighters left the scene after one hour 15 minutes.
