Firework display almost caused death of a horse in Inkpen
A FIREWORK display in a village almost caused the death of a horse.
Owner Hailey Weston said the incident happened in Inkpen on Saturday, November 11.
She explained that a nearby household had an unannounced fireworks display and added: “This resulted in my horse, Cappy, being terrified and running through a fence which wrapped round his leg and bought him down.
“He lay for a very long time trying to free himself and, by the time he was discovered in the morning, he was in a very bad way, unable to get up and exhausted.”
Three fire engines and their crews along with a vet from equine specialists McGonnell and Gillatt worked for hours to free the stricken animal.
Ms Weston said: “Cappy is now back home with me but has extensive injuries.
“He has a large wound on his left hind leg, he is lame on it and also very lame on his right hind leg that was caught in the fence.
“He has wounds on all legs and swellings under his stomach from where he was dragged out.
“He is also exhausted and has lost a lot of weight.
“He is going to need on going vet and specialist treatment to try and get him back to the horse he was.”
Ms Weston has posted an online fundraiser and added: “I wouldn’t normally ask for help but the cost is going to be extensive to try to get him better.”
