Newbury Lions fireworks display back with a blast at Newbury Racecourse
Newbury’s highly-anticipated annual fireworks spectacular returned to Newbury Racecourse at the weekend.
The event — organised every year by Newbury Lions Club — attracted a record crowd of 5,000 smiling families on Saturday night.
Immediate past president Margo Payne said: “It went really well. The weather held strong for us.
“It was a spectacular display as always.”
President Adrian Ho added: “We enjoyed a truly wonderful display of fireworks and give our heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers for making this event a success.”
The event took three months to plan and was coordinated by an army of volunteers, who arrived at the venue on Saturday morning — and were back the following morning to clean up after the event.
The charity’s attention now turns to planning its Christmas events.
Other displays include the Wash Common Annual Fireworks Display being planned tomorrow night (Tuesday) at Falkland Cricket Club.
Gates will be open from 5.30pm, with the main display due to begin at 7.45pm.
Tickets can be bought in advance at The Bowler’s Arms (in Falkland Cricket Club) today. A smaller selection will be available to buy on the door.
The Chieveley Fireworks are also taking place tomorrow at The Recreation Centre in the High Street, designed by Illusion Fireworks.
This is a ticketed, cashless event. Tickets are available to buy online at https://shorturl.at/Kkyn8 or at Chieveley Village Stores.
