First ever Newbury Parkrun event held today (Saturday)
Runners of all shapes, sizes (and speeds) to head to Greenham Common today to take part in free running event
A NEW weekly five-kilometre timed running event starts at Greenham Common today (Saturday).
With tens of thousands of people taking part in Parkrun programs around the country, event director for Newbury Rachael Elliott said she hoped the inaugural event would attract a large turnout.
It begins at 9am, with the final registration at 6pm the previous Friday.
The event is being made possible through the local support of Team Kennet and West Berkshire Council and through national sponsors Lucozade, Sweatshop and Adidas.
Greenham Common Trust and Greenham and Crookham Commons Commission have agreed to free up the land in order for the event to happen.
Parking for the event will be at Greenham Business Park, and the Parkrun team has have arranged for the Coffee Exchange to open for refreshments after the event.
