First plans for 80-bed care home at former Winchcombe school site on show

Dementia and physical care experts MedicX are to hold a public consultation in at the Winchcombe School in Maple Crescent over the plans from 3pm until 7.30pm.
The Winchcombe School underwent a significant refurbishment in 2011, in which redundant buildings of the school (the existing infants section) were demolished, and the newly freed up land was offered to developers by West Berkshire Council to pay for the scheme.
It was initially thought that houses would be built on the land, however last week it was revealed that MedicX and Care UK, an independent provider of health and social care services, had bought the site for an as yet undisclosed but thought to be approaching £8 million project.
The new facility expected to dwarf the 24-bed care home built in Monks Lane, Newbury by Priory Healthcare, which cost £3.5million.
