First Thatcham Santa run a jolly good success

Jolly joggers dressed as Father Christmas, totally 120, set off from the Broadway at 11am on a 5km course along the streets and around the lake at the Nature Discovery Centre.
Everyone who completed the course received an engraved medal for their efforts and got to keep their Santa outfit.
The event, organised by the Thatcham and District Rotary Club, raised more than £2,000.
The money will be donated to local flood charity Thatcham Relief in Need, the new renal dialysis unit and the Rainbow Rooms at the West Berkshire Community Hospital, run by the Cancer Care Trust.
Rotary president Frank Quinn said he was delighted that the first event had been such a success and that the money would be going to good causes.
He said: “It was a resounding success and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and the weather was kind. You’re never quite sure how these things are going to go, but we put a lot of time and effort into it. We’ve had a lot of responses from people saying how much fun they had.
“It was very much the club’s strategy that, as the fireworks had been withdrawn, we had to think of alternative devices for getting income for our charitable works.
We have a mission to help people locally, nationally and internationally, and we are a service club and we are at the service of the community.
He added that the club was looking to hold the event again next year.
