First time in 60 years steam train stops at Hungerford

The Cathedrals Express company claims it is the first time in 60 years that a steam train will have stopped at the town station.
The train is rostered to be hauled by 4464 Bittern, the sister engine to the record-breaking steam locomotive, Mallard, and will arrive on Thursday, June 21.
Passengers will have the chance to travel to the scenic West Somerset Railway through the Quantock Hills to the seaside town of Minehead, or to the city of Wells- the smallest in England, with champagne and fine dining.
Company chairman Marcus Robertson said: “It’s always really exciting to bring a steam train to a new route. The interest and enthusiasm from passengers to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a steam train as it thunders through the countryside at speeds of up to 75mph is wonderful.
