Five generations celebrate 100th birthday

David Hopkins lived in Newbury most of his life, moving to the town as a baby, but moved to live with family in Wales in 2002 after the passing of his wife, Dorothy.
A father of two, grandfather of five, great-grandfather of eight and great-great-grandfather of two, the Fairclose day centre, on Newtown Road, Newbury, was busy with a total of 50 guests joining his celebrations last Saturday.
The party was shared with his granddaughter, Julie, aged 43, who lives in Thatcham, who shares his birthday.
Another granddaughter, Nicola Cox, aged 45 of Newbury, said: “It was good having been able to get all Granddads’ family and friends together in one place to celebrate with him.
“It was nice seeing all the five generations together as Granddad blew out his candles.
“[He] was overwhelmed by all the attention, but delighted to see all his family and to show off his card from the Queen as well as four from Welsh MPs Ian Duncan Smith, David Jones, Carwen Jones and Carmarthenshire County Council.”
