The incident occurred at around 1.30pm, and while no-one was injured, three lanes of the westbound carriageway, at junction 14 (Hungerford) and two lanes of the eastbound carriageway had to be closed while debris was cleared.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency, Andrew Broughton, said that westbound traffic was forced to pass the incident using the hard shoulder, and that delays peaked at around 15-minutes.
He added that all lanes had been re-opened by 2.40pm.
