Flats blaze was suspected arson, say firefighters

Flames spotted in stairwell of Hungerford complex

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire in the stairwell of flats in Hungerford.

The incident happened at 9.27pm last night (Tuesday) at Platt Court.

Spokeswoman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Ellie Grey, said: "There was a small fire in a stairwell. Appliances from Hungerford and Newbury attended and one hosereel was used to extinguish the fire, which was suspected to have been the result of arson."

The fire was extinguished by 9.43pm.
