Flood impact on road and rail services as weather conditions set to worsen throughout the week





The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service remains at condition Red this afternoon (Tuesday) and has requested additional resources to combat rising water levels in the county.
The brigade has already put extra resources in place and is reminding drivers not to be 'floody stupid' by driving through flood water.
Crews say that drivers are still taking enormous risks, with several vehicles having become completely submerged, and are endangering not only their lives but also the safety of their passengers.
The red alert includes a multi-agency operation between the fire, ambulance and police services, as well as the military and local authorities.
In Chieveley, 120 Navy and 80 Army personnel are filling 500 sandbags an hour to be distributed across the county along the M4.
Today's yellow warning for rain has been removed but the Met Office now has a yellow warning for snow in palce for Oxfordshire.
Severe delays are in place across First Great Western routes following disruption this morning where the company reported that it was running with a revised timetable owing to flooding on the lines between Reading and Maidenhead.
As a result, only four services an hour will be running between Reading and London Paddington, with replacement bus service between Reading and Maidenhead.

However, West Berkshire is bracing itself for another battering as a yellow warning for wind and rain is in place for tomorrow (Wednesday). This is followed by a yellow warning for wind on Thursday and yellow warnings for rain on Friday and Saturday.
Burghfield Road has now re-opened, however Thames Valley Police is warning motorists to be aware that floodwater remains on parts of the road.
Reports have also come to Newbury Today from @AshampsteadVH that Aldworth Road in Compton has also been closed between the Coombe Road and School Road junction and there are reports that water on the Hampstead Norreys Road is also rising.
Meanwhile Julia Moore has informed us that her journey along the M4 from Newbury to London has been "even more painful than usual today, 2 hours and counting..." owing to congestion.

Update at 10.59am - Thames Valley Police have Tweeted that the A338 through Great Shefford is closed in both directions because of flooding.
West Berkshire Council’s flood closure site has reported this roads as closed as of 10.30am today (Tuesday).
