Flood warnings/alerts on four local rivers/flooding causes busy night for emergency services

The Environment Agency (EA) has today (Tues) issued a flood warning (immediate action required) for the River Enborne, from Gore End to Aldermaston.
Flood alerts (flooding possible, be prepared), have also been issued for the River Thames, from Days Lock to Pangbourne, the River Kennet, from Thatcham to Reading and the River Pang, from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook.
Fire crews spent five hours pumping flood water out of a Hermitage farmhouse during the early hours of this morning (Christmas Eve/Tues).
Crew manager of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Chris Cound, said one pump was called at 2.30am to the farm house off the B4009/Long Lane, where bedrooms - situated downstairs, due to the farmhouse being built into the slope of the hill - were flooded with two feet of water.
No-one was hurt after the occupants evacuated the property.
“There is a possibility it may re-flood,” said Mr Cound.
They crew were assisted by a fire crew from Whitley Wood fire station, with special equipment, including submersible pumps.
This morning, at 6.10am, Blue Watch crew manager at Whitley Wood fire station, Jim Clark, said three pumps were called, including one from Whitley Wood, backed up by a support unit, plus two more pumps from Mortimer and Tadley fire stations, and to Wasing Lane, Aldermaston, where three cars were stuck and later abandoned in deep flood water
Firefighters led three people to safety and Mr Clark added:
“The water was waist deep and with quite a flow - it was quite fast moving,” he said.
Firefighters left the scene after an hour.
A third flooding incident occurred at Crookham Common, where one pump from Tilehurst and a second from Hungerford fire stations were called at 37 minutes past midnight, to rescue a car stuck in flood water.
No-one was hurt and fire crews returned to the stations at 1.30am.
Hampshire Constabulary have reported over 400 incidents overnight due to bad weather conditions, including fallen trees and flooding.
