Flooding at Newbury train station, caused by Storm Bert, still causing disruption to rail services on Tuesday morning

Lines remain flooded at Newbury train station this morning (Tuesday), with cancellations and delays expected throughout the day.

As we reported yesterday, Storm Bert brought torrential rain throughout the weekend, leaving the station blocked.

GWR said that platforms 1 and 3 remain closed at this time.

“Due to heavy rain flooding the railway at Newbury some lines are blocked,” the rail operator said.

“Train services through this station may be subject to disruption on all routes.

“As there is now only one platform available at Newbury, we are having to reduce the number of trains we run to Newbury station in order to prevent further delay to your journeys.”

Latest information from GWR says that any trains that run direct between Newbury and London Paddington will not run, but the local stopping trains between Newbury and Reading and Newbury and Bedwyn will still operate today.

The high speed long distance trains that call at Newbury will also still run.

Trains were unable to stop at the station yesterday and rail replacement taxis were shuttling passengers to Newbury Racecourse to catch their trains instead.
