Flyball takes off in Tadley
One of fastest growing dog sports in UK entertains locals in the town
ONE of the fastest growing dog sports in the UK has taken off in leaps and bounds in Tadley over the past few months.
Founded eight months ago, Tadley's Delta Flyball club has since steadily grown in popularity, after members have been meeting up with their dogs each Sunday morning, on Tadley Common.
Essentially a canine relay race, the dogs race each other over a line of hurdles, to a box, where a tennis ball is released. The dogs then must run back, with the ball, over the hurdles and to their owner, having fun and simultaneously getting exercise.
Founders of the Tadley club are Erica Steele and Karen Marks. Miss Steele's dog, Lonzo, is a seasoned veteran at the sport and the pair have entered many competitions over the last two years.
Mrs Marks said the club's training sessions were going well, with four teams organised this year, while the dog's antics and efforts at their weekly meetings had proved:
“A great source of entertainment for the locals too.”
“ Apart from sharing a passion for the sport, we all enjoy each other's company and are all looking forward to the camping experience that goes with competing!”
The club meets at 10am every Sunday, at the common in Tadley Common Road, weather permitting, by kind permission of the Turbury Allotment Charity.
