Food Festival is popular success

Nearly 80 stalls competed for attention in the sunshine as exotic aromas filled the air.
Chefs gave demonstrations in cookery theatres, aided by pupils from John O’Gaunt School in Hungerford and the Clere School, Burghclere, while punters sampled everything from artisan salt beef to rum cakes and from local Tutts Clump cider to wild mushrooms.
Lee Kelly, licensee of the Old Waggon and Horses in the town centre, was among the crowd.
He said: “I’ve never seen the market place so packed. It’s a really professionally-run event and can only be good for the town.”
Shoppers were encouraged to meet food producers, sample the wares or enjoy an al fresco lunch.
There was even a lampworking craft stall for those whose palates had become jaded with the excess on offer.
The event will return in September.
