Former BBC presenter appointed headteacher of West Berkshire school
Ofsted judged that Theale Green Community School had not made enough progress since its last inspection, in 2011, and was therefore placed in special measures last week.
The school confirmed that headteacher Sue Marshall, who has been head for 10 years, will leave her post this month, but it is unclear whether she will stay at the school in another capacity.
Now the school has announced that former BBC FiveLive and Tomorrow’s World presenter, David Bromfield will become interim headteacher from January 7, 2013.
Mr Bromfield, a former educational correspondent for the BBC, has 22 years of experience in education, including eight years in senior leadership, and has a National Professional Qualification for Headship in addition to a masters degree in Science Education from King’s College London.
In his most recent role as principal of Manchester Academy, Mr Bromfield’s leadership resulted in a ‘good’ Ofsted rating.
Chairman of governors at Theale Green, Hamish Stout said: “We are delighted to have been able to make a good leadership appointment already and very much look forward to David Bromfield joining the school as interim head teacher.
“We would like to assure parents and students of the whole-hearted determination of governors and staff to ensure that Theale Green Community School will be a centre of excellence and will secure the levels of achievement that all desire and our students deserve.”
