Former council chairman becomes president of West Berkshire charity
Peter Argyle (Con, Calcot) (pictured right, in his former role as district council chairman last year) chose Buddies as his charity for the year upon becoming chairman of the council for the 2011/12 year, and raised over £2,000 through various events throughout the year.
At a full meeting of the council on Thursday in which he stood down as chairman, Mr Argyle was asked by the volunteer secretary of Buddies, Garry Poulson, if he would become the charity’s president, to which he agreed.
Mr Poulson said: “He really took the charity to heart and made a lot of contacts throughout the year.
“The money he brought in was 10 per cent of our annual turnover, this is a really big thing for us because we are such a small charity who rely on volunteers so it really was very helpful and we wanted to thank him for that.
“He’s been incredibly supportive and we are extremely grateful for that.”
The charity aims to ensure that all children and young people aged five to 18 have equal access to leisure opportunities.
