Former Lambourn Primary pupils reunite after 50 years
They came from around the world after Janet Yuill (nee Bowsher) sent out word via social media.
Ms Yuill said: “Three years ago I found a classmate from Georgia, USA, through a message left on the Lambourn website.
“From there Pat Attwood-Johnson put me in touch with a few more classmates. Then Pat from Georgia, Jenny Finnigan-Baker from Australia and Lyn Corbridge-Robinson and Shirley Stephenson-Parfit, both from England, joined Facebook...we also picked up Margaret from Sweden who was in our John O Gaunt class.”
For the next three years, Mrs Yuill used her genealogy skills to track down dozens more former pupils from the era.
She added: “I managed to find all but four from our infant class. Then it went on to the next class - I found all but two.”
The reunion took place at the school on Saturday, September 13, and on the big day, said Mrs Yuill: “We had Sheena Wickens-Stacey who arrived from eastern Australia, Pat has flown in from Georgia, Margaret has flown in from Sweden and myself from Vancouver Island. We have classmates from Hampshire, Devon, Northumberland, Sussex, and Somerset.”
After enjoying a tour of their old school, the company posed for a new ‘school photograph’ before heading off to the Lambourn Sports Club to swap stories and reminisce.
The following day, many of the party met again for lunch at The Swan in Great Shefford.
