Former mayor shows her support for stroke sufferers with sponsored Newbury walk

Chris Jennings, of Priory Road, dedicated her mayoral year in 2000 to charity fund raising.
This time, however, the good cause is close to her heart.
She said: “I’m aiming to raise £1,000 for Newbury Stroke Care."
At 10am today (April 28) she will be attempting to walk the length of Northbrook Street in Newbury. Starting at the clock house, Mrs Jennings will be aiming to complete the 400 metre walk ending at St Nicolas Church to raise awareness, and her target of £1,000, for Stroke Care for Newbury and West Berkshire.
“This may be no great feat for the able bodied, however in March of 2011 I suffered two strokes leaving me paralysed down my entire left side. On the same day as my walk, Stroke Awareness Day is being run by Rotary where they will have a team of people taking blood pressure in Newbury Town Hall to make people aware of the need to monitor their blood pressure to avoid strokes.”
As it will also be West Berkshire Council’s Feel Good Fortnight, Newbury Stroke Care is organising a coffee and cakes morning in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Town Hall.
Mrs Jennings, aged 66, said: “Please donate as much possible to help Stroke Care for Newbury and West Berkshire who provide support to stroke survivors and their families. With your support, others like myself can benefit from their good work. Thank you for your help and support on the day.
