Free accessible exercise classes for people with Parkinson's
A Thatcham-based specialist accessible exercise business is offering free classes for those with Parkinson’s.
MOVEability is collaborating with Parkinson’s UK Newbury and District Branch to provide the three-month long service.
The classes, which start on November 4, will feature a special dance and exercise programme designed with Parkinson’s in mind.
According to Parkinson’s UK, 1 in 37 people alive today in the UK will be diagnosed in their lifetime, with two people diagnosed every hour.
With population growth and ageing, this is likely to increase by a fifth, to around 172,000 people in the UK, by 2030.
The classes will be free, courtesy of a grant from Parkinson’s UK, subject to participants taking part in a short and confidential survey about the benefits of this exercise.
MOVEability’s owner and founder Debbie Medlin said: “We are so much more than fitness instructors. Through our classes we hope to really enhance the lives of those living with Parkinson’s, not only through greater strength and mobility but also through new friendships.”
The fortnightly class will be held in the large meeting room of the St George’s Church Annex in Wash Common.
It will begin at 11.15am and run for about 45 minutes.
For anyone who cannot make it, there will be weekly Zoom classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 10.30am.
