Relive all the fun in the sun at the Victoria Park Family Day 2025

Hundreds of people enjoyed some fun in the sun as Newbury hosted a successful Family Day.

The free event in Victoria Park, organised by Newbury Town Council, saw the mayor of Newbury, David Harman, and the mayoress, Rosalind Harman, officially kick off the activities at noon.

A climbing wall and caving adventure proved very popular, with queues to have a go throughout the day.

And there was entertainment on the Bandstand with the Razzamataz Theatre School and local musicians Rude Not 2. Watership Brass finished off the day with a spectacular ensemble of popular tunes.

The Punch and Judy shows, which were a real hit with the younger visitors, also saw everyone joining in the fun.

Mr Harman said: “We were delighted to once again host this free event for families in Newbury.

“It was a wonderful day, and great to see so many people enjoying the park's facilities and activities.

“While some of our play equipment is unfortunately temporarily out of action, the added attractions made for a fantastic day all around.”

The 3rd Newbury Scout Group were raising funds at Sunday’s (June 1) event, providing tasty barbeque treats for everyone to enjoy and Kennet Radio came along to keep families entertained throughout the afternoon.

The pedaloes were free of charge all day on Victoria Park pond, while the tennis courts were also open with free rackets and balls available so everyone could have a go on the day.

Children – and adults alike – were excited to be given the opportunity to explore a fire engine on the day too, which had been brought along by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The local branch of Rugby Tots were offering free 20 minute try out sessions for two-seven-year-olds, while others enjoyed the splash park, skatepark and Newbury Adventure Golf during the day too.
