Individuals who require long term healthcare, as opposed to social or residential care, who feel they may be entitled to help or have never applied, have been specifically targeted.
The abolition of NHS Berkshire in March 2013 means the responsibility for NHS continuing care - free care outside of hospital that is arranged and funded by the NHS - moves to the remit of the Newbury and District Clinical Commissioning Group.
As a result the Department of Health announced the introduction of deadlines for new cases which require assessment of eligibility.
Any resident who believes they were eligible to receive NHS continuing care between April 1, 2004, and March 31, 2011, must apply to the local Primary Care Trust before 30 September 2012.
Those who believe they were eligible to receive NHS continuing care between April 1, 2011, and March 31, 2012, have until March 31, 2013, to apply.
The deadlines have been introduced because Department of Health wants to set clear cut off points for historical cases.
For more information or to apply for assessment contact the Berkshire West Primary Care Trust on (0118) 950 3094.
