Thatcham Baptist Church will be accepting donations next month

WEST Berkshire Action for Refugees has launched an appeal to help people who will be sleeping out in the cold and rain without shelter this winter.

The organisation is appealing for the following items to be brought to Thatcham Baptist Church at Wheelers Green Way on Friday, December 4: Tents, tarpaulins, sleeping bags, camping roll mats, fleece blankets, foil emergency blankets, first-aid supplies, waterproof coats and trousers, jogging bottoms, warm jumpers, thermal mid-layer tops and leggings, hats and gloves, wellies, hiking boots, snowboots and trainers, socks, snowsuits for babies and children and unused euro currency.

A spokesman for the group said: “If it is not on the list, please do not bring it. If you think something should be on the list and it’s not, contact us before the day.

“Please take the time to check and prepare your donations – this saves us a lot of work and improves the quality of what we give.

“Check blankets, clothing and shoes are clean and free from holes.

“Put an appropriate clean pair of socks in each shoe or boot, and place children’s shoes inside a clear plastic bag and label it with the size in UK/EU sizes.

“Please do not go buy goods to donate – instead donate the money you would have spent.”
