From history to hip hop: Thatcham Festival events this weekend
An array of talent, entertainment and fun is on offer in Thatcham this weekend.
From an infant five-a-side football festival at The Moors from 9am-1pm to an art exhibition at the Old Bluecoats School from 10am-4pm, there’s plenty happening on Saturday.
Thatcham Memorial Classic Car Show is also on and taking over Thatcham Memorial Fields from 10am-4pm.
The Big Thatcham Fest Off will take hold of the High Street from 5pm-9pm for music, street food, art and workshops.
Insightful discussions will be taking place on Zoom from 2pm-4pm in the Refugees as Rebuilders event, where those displaced by conflict and climate disaster will be able to share their stories.
Also on Saturday is a singing workshop help by local choir Watership Cantabile at St Mary's Church, a bird walk at Nature Discovery Centre,Walking History of Thatcham Town Centre starting at St Mary's Church and many more events.
On Sunday, local artist Simon Jardine will be bringing his painting workshop to the Frank Hutchings Community Hall from 10am-12pm.
Also on Sunday Thatcham Apple Day is coming to the Nature Discovery Centre from 11am-3pm.
Thatcham Thrives Dance Gala will show off the depth of talent in the town from 4.30pm-6.45pm at the Kennet School.
The gala, which was dubbed the highlight of the previous Mayor of Thatcham’s year, has returned more diverse than the last taking inspiration from all corners of the world.
New award-winning South Indian dancers will be taking to the stage to join hip hop, tap, contemporary and ballet dancers among others.
Organiser Sonia Brown said: “Last year was a success and this one will be even more diverse.
“The dance industry is moving forward, we have such a healthy and supportive environment, I love it.”
