Fun and games at Chad’s fete

Hundreds of people attended the traditional village fete at Chaddleworth village hall, and got involved in events including an African drumming workshop and morris dancing by the Garston Gallopers.
Twelve real ales were up for tasting, some brewed locally, at the beer festival with live music from bands Catch 22, supported by Tin Cards.
Dogs had their day in the fun dog show with prizes for classes including prettiest and most handsome dog and best party trick.
The most popular stall was the Crockery Smash, where people get to bowl cricket balls at donated crockery.
The event was organised by the Chaddleworth entertainments committee, who have been responsible for the pop-up pub events to compensate for the closure of the village’s Ibex Inn.
Committee member Edwin Carter said: “We were delighted with how the event went.
“It was extremely well-attended, being a lovely day, and we were probably pretty much at comfortable capacity but it’s hard to estimate actual numbers.
"The event as a whole broke even, which we were happy about again as a new committee, and we've learned a lot about what works best for next year's event."
“Lots of stalls and games were run by local community groups and charities. Each took away most of their takings, with only a small contribution to the costs of the event, so essentially the festival is in support of groups such as these.”
