Fun, fun, fun for Beach Boys audience on Saturday
They might have formed in 1961, but 53 years on the Beach Boys showed they still have what it takes by thrilling racegoers with a series of hits and crowd pleasers including 'I Get Around' and 'California Girls' during a energetic one hour and 40 minute set.
Headlined by original band member Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, who joined in 1965, they were joined on stage by John Cowsill, Tim Bonhomme, Randell Kirsch, Scott Totten and Jeff Foskett, a Beach Boys band member on-and-off since 1981 and Brian Wilson's musical right-hand man.
The crowd of more than 15,000 also sang along to big hits such as 'Fun, Fun, Fun', 'God Only Knows' and 'Kokomo'.
There was an unforgettable moment for one group of racegoers who won a 'meet and greet' competition, as they were invited on stage to sing and dance to the band's 1965 smash hit 'Barbara Ann'.
Despite some ominous looking grey clouds lingering over the venue and predictions of heavy showers and thunderstorms, the rain held off and the crowd were even treated to spells of glorious sunshine.
During the day, punters took in an entertaining day of racing, although favourite backers were left out of pocket as the hotly tipped Al Kazeem failed to live up to expectations by finishing fourth in the feature race of the day.
Some guests soaked up the sunshine by enjoying a picnic on the grounds while others partied to the music.
