Yattendon Classic Car Show makes roaring return for tenth year

A classic vehicle show returned for its 10th year at the weekend.

There were fewer visitors but more classic vehicles than ever at this year’s Yattendon Classic Vehicle Day hosted in the village on Sunday (June 29).

From vintage motorbikes to amphibious army vehicles, there was plenty on offer to keep enthusiasts and casual visitors alike entertained in the fields opposite St Peter’s & St Paul’s Church. But no tank this year, as its transporter broke down.

More unique exhibits included a tuk-tuk and three-wheeler bubble car.

Speaking at the event, organiser Lyn Mistry said: “We’ve probably got north of 600 vehicles. Everybody loves it here because the surroundings are so beautiful.

“And we've got a new car park and exit courtesy of Lord Iliffe.

“[Renegade Brewery] has been open for supercars. So, those who don’t want to come and damage their exhaust on a bumpy field can park outside the brewery.”

The winners of Best in Show, as chosen by Lord Robert Iliffe, were a blue 1955 Austin Healey 100/4 BN1 and a red tractor.

Lord Iliffe told newburytoday he thought there was a “fantastic selection” of vehicles this year.

Several car clubs attended including the Barkham & District Classic Car Club, Newbury Area MG Owners Club and Basingstoke Classic Car Club to mention a few.

We have a 1959 Mk1 Austin A40 Farina Her top speed (should be) 66.8mph but the most we have got her to is 55mph 0-50 in 19.5 seconds (in her era it didn’t go to 60) Horsepower: 34…but ours is 37 as she has a single SU carburettor! Price new was £689 Originally released in October 1958 A series petrol 948cc, 4 cylinder MPG 38mpg Special features (as she is a deluxe model) a heater and opening rear windows! The other interesting thing is that the date of the Yattendon Event it will be exactly a year since we bought her, so her “gotcha” day. Due to the registration she is affectionately known as Ook
