'Fun-runners' raise funds for the scouts

Over 100 runners turn up in Cold Ash to take part in fun run for scout group

MORE than 100 runners pounded the streets in Cold Ash on Sunday to raise money for the scout group.

Proceeds from the run which started at Downe House school in Hermitage Road will go towards the running costs at First Cold Ash Scout group.

So far it has been estimated that more than £700 was raised on the day and the organising group is hoping to gain some match funding to add to the total.

Participants could either take part in the one mile around the school field won by 10-year-old Henry Cox, the three miles course won by Downe House pupil, Liah Colthurst, and the six mile course won by Gareth Watkins.

Organiser Karen Murphy thanked all those who helped on the day including staff and pupils from Downe House school.

She said that a week ago, 46 runners had registered to take part, however, by the day of the event, the total had risen to 108 - a turnout beyond her wildest dreams.
