Fundraising army marches on Bath

David Orme, aged 47, and his daughters Sophie, aged 14, and Jess, aged 11, are raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, in memory of their mother and wife, Jackie, who died of the illness in July, aged 46.
They have enlisted about 300 people – including teachers, parents, the headteacher and pupils of St Gabriel’s School, Newbury, where the girls attend, as well as friends, family, and former colleagues – and 200 of the group will be taking part in the Bath half-marathon, and 100 in the associated family fun run.
Team Jackie will be the largest single team in the half-marathon and the fun runners make up 10 per cent of all those taking part in the 1.5-mile race.
Mr Orme said: “I’m totally overwhelmed by the amazing support from everybody.
"I hope we can keep it going.
"The fundraising has just been overwhelming, and the amount of support from everybody.”
The chief executive of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, Maggie Blanks, said: “What David is doing is inspirational and it’s so moving to see so many people come forward and honour Jackie’s life like this.
"It’s thanks to the efforts of supporters like David we’re able to fund some £4m of research projects across the UK to develop much-needed therapies for pancreatic cancer.”
The team will be taking part in the event on Sunday dressed in Team Jackie T-shirts and red tutus.
