Fundraising event for sensory equipment for baby Iyla Jones
Eight-month-old Iyla Nevaeh Jones, who lives with her parents Simone Hillier and David Jones (pictured), was born without a corpus callosum, which connects the left and right sides of the brain and transfers motor, sensory and cognitive functions.
A lack of muscle development also meant that she was unable to open her eyes until a recent operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The community has rallied together to raise funds for specialist equipment for Iyla on previous occasions, including a sponsored walk from Speen to Thatcham in November, and on Thursday, January 30, Cheap Street restaurant NAWAB will open its doors to raise further funds towards a sensory room to aid her development.
Elvis Presley tribute act Mike Nova will entertain the crowd at the event, which has been organised by a close friend of Iyla’s family, Julie Hards.
A raffle will also be on offer, with prizes to include a gel nail manicure with Pro-V nails, a meal for two at NAWAB and a three course meal with wine at The Starting Gate, Speen.
Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News, Ms Hards said: “She’s very happy and content, always smiling; she’s just a lovely little baby.
“I felt I needed to do something
“All the equipment she needs is pricey, so anything helps.”
