Fundraising quiz launches new West Berks charity

The Friends of Young Carers West Berkshire was set up in June to support and raise awareness of the difficulties faced by those under 18 who care for family members across the district.
The charity said that young carers often missed out on opportunities to play and learn and that they could struggle with their schoolwork. They can feel under pressure and isolated, owing to their caring responsibilities at home.
The charity celebrated its launch with a fundraising quiz night at the Greenacre leisure centre on September 14.
About 100 people put their thinking caps on to raise more than £1,000 – both figures exceeding the organisers’ expectations.
The chairwoman of the trustees, Alison McIntyre, said: “We never imagined at the outset that our quiz night would prove to be so popular and successful. It has now given us confidence to start planning our next event.
“The interest and support so far has been overwhelming.”
Mrs McIntyre also said that the charity was well on its way to becoming registered and would be working with schools to raise awareness of their services.
